- Rosie has been operating a WARMTH community kitchen in Khayalitsha for many, many years now and all who visit her kitchen are impressed with her commitment to the many poor and hungry people in her neighbourhood.
- The WARMTH project extends far beyond Rosie's kitchen - she is one of about 50 women who operate community kitchens in different townships around Cape Town. The cost of running a kitchen like Rosie's is R25,000 per year (£2,500). Rosie can feed several hundred hungry people every day. £16 will feed one child a hot meal 5 days a week for a year (£60 will feed 4 children). Better nutrition means better health, energy to work and hope for the future. The kitchen operators also provide a focus of support, stability and a safe place for the most disadvantaged, especially old people and little children.

The model of community kitchens works well and provides a very effective solution to the probelms of hunger and poverty in Cape Town. But the need is enormous. Many children still do not have the daily food they need to survive and grow. |
